Students are expected to engage in continued work from now through the completion of their final exam in late fall. This work may take the form of a project related to your current job, career interests, the development of new skills, or a unique opportunity you wish to pursue. You should propose an idea, after which we will meet to discuss and refine the concept so that you can proceed over the summer.
A second reader will also be required—ideally someone knowledgeable about the subject area of your final project. This person should preferably hold a PhD and may be a faculty member you’ve previously worked with here at the university.
The final deliverables include:
  • A 20-minute PowerPoint presentation
  • A 10-minute Q&A session led by the second reader
  • A written report of 5 to 6 pages
The written report should follow a standard scientific format, with sections including:
Title, Introduction, Research Question/Objectives, Methods, Results, and Discussion.
Additional details and the project timeline can be found on the Info for Students page of the SpecLab website, under the “Schedule” sub-tab.
